en.Wedoany.com Reported - BGO, Dimension Energy, and Black Bear Energy are celebrating the energization of a 4.99 MW rooftop community solar system in Somerset, New Jersey. This system is the second co-located project on the same industrial warehouse, which previously hosted a 4.97 MW system built under New Jersey's original Community Solar Pilot Program. The combined capacity of the two systems reaches 9.9 MW, making this warehouse the largest host of industrial rooftop community solar in New Jersey's history.
New Jersey's permanent community solar regulations prohibit co-locating more than 5 MW on a single site, but the first system was approved and built under the separate pilot program, governed by a different regulatory framework, allowing both projects to coexist on the same rooftop. Together, the two systems will generate approximately 12,000 MWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to powering over 1,600 homes each year. This power is distributed through the New Jersey Community Solar Program, which allows residents and renters who cannot install solar on their own properties to subscribe to a share of an off-site solar project, achieving at least 20% savings on their electricity bills through credits, with no installation or long-term commitment required, and prioritizes low- and moderate-income households.
The solar array is installed on the existing rooftop of an industrial warehouse owned by BGO on behalf of an institutional investor, utilizing already-built infrastructure rather than developing greenfield land, maximizing the value of the existing building without sacrificing undeveloped land, creating value for BGO's clients while also contributing to New Jersey's clean energy goals.
"BGO's U.S. Asset Management team creates value for clients through active asset management, bringing together the right partners to unlock new opportunities," said Rob Naso, Managing Partner and Head of U.S. Asset Management at BGO. "Alongside experienced partners like Dimension Energy and Black Bear Energy, we enhance the value of the assets we invest in and manage, while helping to deliver tangible benefits in the communities where we operate."
Dimension Energy developed the project and will own and operate it long-term. Sam Younes, Co-Founder and Chief Development Officer of Dimension Energy, stated: "We are proud to bring this project to life alongside BGO and Black Bear Energy, whose collaboration made this possible. Community solar is one of New Jersey's most powerful tools for delivering real energy savings to residents—locally produced, rapidly deployed, and available to households across the state with no upfront cost. Dimension is delivering projects like this at scale across New Jersey, transforming underutilized rooftop space into lasting community benefits."
Statewide, Dimension's growing portfolio of warehouse rooftop community solar projects is planned to provide affordable, clean electricity to 10,000 New Jersey households by the end of 2026.
Black Bear Energy served as the commercial buyer's representative, leveraging its on-site renewable energy expertise to facilitate this partnership. Victoria Stulgis, President of Black Bear Energy, said: "BGO has been a partner of Black Bear's from the very beginning, and this project is a testament to what's possible when world-class real estate owners commit to deploying solar to add value to their portfolios. We are proud to celebrate this milestone alongside BGO and Dimension Energy."
