West Moberly, RES win 210MW award

The partners stated that the project is one of four successful bids in BC Hydro's 2025 electricity call. RES added that West Moberly First Nations will hold a 51% ownership stake in the project through a wholly owned subsidiary.

The Sweetwater Wind Project will include approximately 30 turbines, located on private agricultural land in Treaty 8 territory, about 20 kilometers north of Dawson Creek. The project is expected to generate enough electricity annually to power approximately 50,000 homes.

West Moberly First Nations will play a central role in environmental review and project planning. "This agreement is about our Nation taking control of its own energy future—not just as a partner, but as a majority owner," said Roland Willson, Chief of West Moberly First Nations. "Clean energy development on our territory, on our terms, bringing lasting benefits to our community and region."

"British Columbia has the ambition and resources to be a clean energy leader, and signing this agreement reflects what is possible when the right partnerships are built," said Peter Clibbon, Senior Vice President of RES Canada. "Majority ownership by West Moberly First Nations is exactly the model we believe in."
