en.Wedoany.com Reported - Safeen Drydocks has secured a shipbuilding contract valued at AED 1.3 billion (approximately $354 million), the largest order in the company's history, providing significant support for the UAE's goal of establishing a regional shipbuilding hub.

The Abu Dhabi-based shipyard is a joint venture between AD Ports Group and Premier Marine Engineering Services, under Noatum Maritime. Under the contract, the shipyard will build a total of 22 vessels across two separate projects.

The larger project involves the design and construction of four 140-meter multipurpose vessels for AD Ports Group. These vessels are among the significant shipbuilding projects undertaken in the UAE, designed to handle various cargo types and carry passengers. Each vessel can accommodate 105 passengers, transport up to 300 containers (including over 100 reefer plugs), as well as high and heavy cargo, 1,000 cars, and 100 trailers.

Beyond the domestic project, the shipyard has also secured an international contract from Nigeria's Oilbank Logistics Services to build 18 marine support units, including tugs and pilot boats. These vessels will support port operations and offshore logistics activities in Nigeria. The Nigerian project is one of the largest international shipbuilding projects won by Safeen Drydocks since its inception, further expanding the company's business footprint beyond the Gulf region.

Ammar Al Shaiba, CEO of the Maritime & Shipping Cluster at AD Ports Group, stated that these orders demonstrate Safeen Drydocks' capability to execute complex shipbuilding projects for both local and international clients. The acquisition of these contracts has accelerated the company's expansion, with Safeen Drydocks having already surpassed its initial UAE base. Following the acquisition of Balenciaga Shipyard, the company now operates facilities in both the UAE and Spain.

The implementation of the latest projects comes as the UAE pushes to develop a stronger domestic maritime manufacturing sector. Last month, a group of UAE maritime companies formed the Consortium of UAE Shipbuilders, bringing together shipyards, marine engineering firms, and manufacturing experts under a unified platform aimed at improving industry coordination, procurement, and project execution. Safeen Drydocks is a founding member of this initiative led by Noatum Maritime.
