en.Wedoany.com Reported - Cognizant has established two new job categories—"Frontier Certified Engineer" and "Frontier Business Operator"—to address the need for enterprises to redesign how work is done in the era of artificial intelligence. These roles are specifically designed for the large-scale deployment of this technology.

The new positions were created following the company's launch of the AI Builder Strategy. This approach focuses on developing customized AI platforms rather than off-the-shelf tools. According to Cognizant's research, there is a $4.5 trillion gap between the value AI can deliver and what enterprises are currently realizing. The company attributes this to a shortage of people and processes capable of deploying the technology in ways that generate measurable returns.

Cognizant's Chief Human Resources Officer, Kathy Diaz, stated that the company is taking a deliberate approach to workforce development. The new roles are designed from the ground up for the current world. They aim to reshape how job functions are realized when AI tools are involved. Frontier Certified Engineers will work with partner organizations to realign business processes for AI-active environments. This role involves identifying areas where automation can reshape operations or reduce inefficiencies, requiring strategic thinking and technical proficiency. Frontier Business Operators will be responsible for operational outcomes, managing teams that include both human employees and digital systems, potentially involving the deployment of AI agents and automation tools alongside human decision-making.

Thirumala Arohi, Senior Vice President and Head of Learning and Development at Cognizant, noted that enterprises are questioning why AI returns have not materialized. He attributed this to the existing workforce structure, stating that AI has already exposed 93% of jobs to automation, but the portion representing $4.5 trillion in labor value has yet to be captured. The new roles represent a new type of professional, trained from day one to translate AI capabilities into business realities. Thirumala said that the most important innovation of this decade will not come from the AI field itself, but from empowering every employee to use AI.

Cognizant will use its SkillSpring platform to train employees for these new roles. Kathy Diaz stated that the platform enables the company to cultivate employees who can navigate AI-priority environments, building a workforce that is not only ready for the next step but actively shaping it. Both talent pathways will undergo structured learning paths covering AI fluency, process design, data interpretation, and operational leadership. The platform aims to shorten the time for new employees to reach full productivity, enabling the company to scale these roles more quickly.
