en.Wedoany.com Reported - The National Port Authority of Peru (APN) has granted Horizonte de Verano SAC a $540 million port license to build the country's first green hydrogen terminal in the Majes district, Caylloma province, Arequipa region.

The first phase of the project will involve the construction of two single-point mooring terminals and underwater pipelines, along with a coastal ammonia storage system. This storage system will feature thermally insulated tanks for storing ammonia compounds at low temperatures, in addition to an underwater pipeline system for supplying ammonia to tankers and a seawater desalination plant.

The project also includes a green hydrogen and ammonia production plant. Unlike conventional ammonia derived from hydrocarbons, this process obtains raw materials from seawater and air, emitting no carbon dioxide during use. All energy required for production will come from renewable sources such as solar and wind power.

The estimated total investment for the Horizonte de Verano project is $540 million, to be carried out in five phases. The first phase is expected to require an investment of $120 million and is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2029.
