en.Wedoany.com Reported - Argonne National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) launched a new manufacturing initiative on June 10 called the "National Science-at-Scale Collaborative," aimed at helping businesses accelerate the transition of emerging chemical processing and critical materials technologies from the research phase to commercial-scale production.

Supported by the DOE's Office of Critical Materials and Energy Innovation (CMEI), the initiative will focus on domestic manufacturing scale-up, process development, and deployment of advanced production technologies. According to Argonne National Laboratory, researchers will collaborate with industry partners to evaluate and scale production processes using artificial intelligence, advanced modeling, rapid synthesis systems, and pilot-scale manufacturing tools at the Materials Engineering Research Facility.

The collaborative aims to address manufacturing bottlenecks involving critical minerals, specialty chemicals, and advanced materials supply chains, areas relevant to energy technologies and industrial production. Argonne National Laboratory Director Paul Kearns stated that the initiative seeks to strengthen the connection between scientific research, engineering development, and industrial deployment to enhance U.S. manufacturing competitiveness.

Prior to the initiative's launch, CMEI organized an industry roundtable with participants including chemical producers, materials companies, and national laboratory representatives. Attendees included representatives from Aclara, Albemarle, ATALCO, BASF North America, Chemours, Dow, Entegris, Exxon Mobil, Orbia, and Standard Lithium, as well as officials from DOE and Argonne National Laboratory.

DOE Assistant Secretary Audrey Robertson stated that the initiative aims to help accelerate domestic production of new technologies and strengthen the U.S. critical materials supply chain. The collaborative aligns with broader DOE efforts focused on expanding domestic manufacturing capacity for next-generation energy technologies, advanced materials, and chemical processing systems.
