Andrew Young, Chief Product Officer at WatchGuard, stated that with the new high-performance Firebox appliances, partners can manage larger and more demanding customer environments. The company claims to be the first firewall provider to integrate OCP-3.0 expansion slots. The Open Compute Project (OCP), originally initiated by Facebook under the name "Project Freedom," includes open standards for server designs, OCP accelerator modules, storage, network switches, and rack and power solutions.

The Firebox M4850 targets organizations with up to 2,500 users, offering 66.5 Gbit/s firewall throughput and 17.3 Gbit/s when UTM security services are enabled. This appliance supports up to 5,000 site-to-site connections and 10,000 mobile VPN connections, equipped with 1, 5, 10, and 25 Gigabit ports.

The Firebox M5850 is designed for organizations with up to 7,500 users, delivering enhanced performance compared to the M4850, with up to 79 Gbit/s firewall throughput and 27 Gbit/s UTM throughput. HTTPS inspection and VPN connection performance are also significantly improved, with tunnel limits removed, allowing the platform to support an unlimited number of branch and mobile VPN connections.

The flagship model, Firebox M6850, is tailored for ultra-large networks with up to 10,000 users, achieving 104 Gbit/s firewall throughput and up to 36 Gbit/s under full UTM inspection, with HTTPS inspection rates reaching the highest in the family at 18.5 Gbit/s. In addition to existing 1, 5, 10, and 25 Gigabit interfaces, the M6850 features two 100 Gigabit ports, suitable for data center and backbone network scenarios. All three new appliances come with redundant power supplies and hot-swappable fans, and according to WatchGuard, they are now available.
