en.Wedoany.com Reported - Voith Hydro has signed a contract with AXIA Energia to modernize the synchronous condensers at the Recife II substation in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Brazil. The project will involve digital and technological upgrades to the electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation systems originally installed in the 1980s.

This marks the third time Voith has provided a digital delivery for the company through its HyCon system. HyCon is Voith's proprietary solution designed to enhance the reliability, availability, and operational efficiency of power generation and transmission assets.

Leandro Lucas, Sales Director for Voith Hydro South America Services, stated that the delivery for the Recife II substation reinforces the company's commitment to becoming a partner for AXIA Energia in standardized and predictive modernization projects, always focusing on ensuring maximum asset availability.

The Recife II substation is one of the main substations in the region, responsible for supplying active and reactive power to the entire Recife metropolitan area, serving approximately 3.7 million people. The contract includes the system modernization of two 150 MVAr synchronous condensers, which have been in operation for over four decades and whose components have become obsolete due to the unavailability of spare parts.

The main systems and equipment to be modernized by Voith include control, protection, excitation, vibration monitoring, and instrumentation systems. The scope also covers high, medium, and low voltage auxiliary electrical systems, such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, starting and auxiliary transformers, reactors, switchboards, lighting systems, and power outlets. Additionally, Voith will upgrade mechanical auxiliary systems, such as hydrogen purification systems, water circulation systems, and oil circulation systems.

Guilherme Gonçalves, Engineering Manager for Automation and Digitalization Applications at Voith Hydro Latin America, emphasized that through the integrated supply of electrical and mechanical systems, the Recife II substation will benefit from state-of-the-art technology upgrades and auxiliary equipment modernization solutions, which will help improve the reliability of the region's power system.
