en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Bahr Essalam gas field has officially commenced production, located approximately 100 kilometers off the coast of Libya. The project is operated by the Mellitah Oil & Gas BV joint venture, a partnership between Eni SPA and the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC).

This production milestone was achieved through the advancement of the Sabratha Compression Project, an offshore development initiative aimed at maintaining and boosting the gas field's output. The core of the project involves installing a new 1,600-ton compression module on the Sabratha platform, equipped with a new set of compressors with a total compression capacity of approximately 440 million cubic feet per day (about 440 MMcfd).
The new module can operate under low-pressure conditions, effectively offsetting the natural decline in production from the Bahr Essalam field and maximizing gas recovery. This will ensure an increase in annual natural gas output by approximately 800 million cubic meters (about 800 million cu m/yr), along with associated condensate.
The additional gas will be used to meet Libya's domestic power generation needs and support exports to Italy via the Greenstream pipeline.
Within Libya, two other strategic projects are also progressing: the Bouri Gas Utilization Project recently installed a gas recovery module, which is currently undergoing connection and commissioning; and the Structures A&E Project is also being executed to develop two offshore gas fields.
