en.Wedoany.com Reported - Alstom's new train manufacturing factory in Matosinhos, Portugal, will be responsible for producing 81 trains for Comboios de Portugal (CP). This order is a significant part of the local production component in the contract between Alstom and CP.

Covering an area of over 20,000 square meters, the new factory is expected to create approximately 300 direct jobs and more than 1,000 indirect jobs. The construction of the factory is being undertaken by Portuguese civil engineering company DST.

Alstom stated that locating part of the production in Portugal helps reduce logistical complexity and ensures the smooth delivery of the CP order. The Matosinhos factory will also be integrated into Alstom's broader European production network.

The order comprises a total of 153 trains, all of which are three-car commuter and regional trains designed specifically for the Portuguese market, with each train capable of accommodating up to 450 passengers. The trains are equipped with accessible passages, flat floors, Wi-Fi, and designated areas for wheelchairs and bicycles. Alstom noted that over 95% of the train materials are recyclable.

Andrew DeLeone, President of Alstom Europe, stated that this project plays a key role in fulfilling the CP contract under optimal conditions while also supporting the development of local capabilities. Alstom has been operating in Portugal for over 30 years and provides signaling technology for more than 1,500 kilometers of the country's railway network.
