en.Wedoany.com Reported - Freight transport between Europe and the Gulf is being significantly accelerated by multimodal transport. DP World revealed at the 5th Turkish Maritime Summit in Istanbul that by integrating sea and road transport, the company can compress delivery times on this route from approximately 55 days for traditional maritime shipping to between 22 and 29 days, offering a more resilient logistics option for time-sensitive cargo.
Abdulla Al Hashmi, DP World's Global Chief Operating Officer and Head of Parks and Economic Zones, stated that geopolitical uncertainties and ongoing disruptions to traditional shipping lanes are prompting companies to accelerate the deployment of alternative trade corridors, leading to wider adoption of multimodal transport. Against this backdrop, cargo volumes transiting through Turkey to Gulf markets have risen significantly, covering multiple industries including automotive, consumer goods, and industrial manufacturing, with two-way flows: both from Europe into the Gulf and from the Far East onward through Turkey.
Al Hashmi noted that Turkey, leveraging its strategic geographic location and sustained investment in logistics infrastructure such as ports, freight forwarding, road, and rail connections, is steadily consolidating its position as a core trade and logistics gateway connecting Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. DP World is currently supporting a growing number of clients using Turkey as an entry point to the Gulf market, enhancing supply chain continuity and transport efficiency through its multimodal corridors.
