en.Wedoany.com Reported - Waymo has registered a subsidiary, Waymo France, in preparation for entering the European autonomous mobility market.

As a subsidiary of Alphabet and the successor to Google's self-driving car project, Waymo has completed the commercial registration of Waymo France. The entity's objectives include providing on-demand transportation services using autonomous vehicles and supporting other businesses in commercializing such services.

Establishing a French subsidiary does not mean autonomous taxis will be immediately deployed in Paris. Multiple hurdles remain, including certification, safety, remote monitoring, insurance, accident liability, and social acceptance. Robotaxis need to prove they can operate safely without a driver, without turning every incident into a public debate.

Waymo is also preparing to enter the London market. For the traditional taxi and ride-hailing industries, the competitive landscape Waymo brings is clear: it sells not just autonomous vehicles, but a fleet, a platform, and a round-the-clock service that requires no rest, no fatigue, and no driver compensation.

In the short term, robotaxis will not replace professional transport operators in France, as regulatory and social constraints remain significant. However, in scenarios where autonomous driving is easiest to achieve—such as fully mapped areas, repetitive routes, or remote human supervision—this technology could reshape industry rules.
