en.Wedoany.com Reported - PLC Resources (ASX:PLC) plans to conduct ground reconnaissance and mapping on the eastern margin of the Abbotts Greenstone Belt, following an airborne geophysical survey that identified a large-scale antiform structure in the area.
High-resolution magnetic and radiometric surveys captured a previously unmapped fold structure, which intersects a deep east-west crustal feature highlighted by Proterozoic dykes. The company believes this structural geometry is a primary control on orogenic gold mineralization in the Yilgarn Craton.
PLC also noted that the eastern margin of the Abbotts Greenstone Belt remains entirely untested by drilling or systematic soil sampling within its tenement. This survey has opened a new exploration corridor along the eastern margin and expanded the drill target inventory beyond the Rochefort gold prospect.
Executive Director Simon Phillips said the survey results have opened a new chapter for the Abbotts North Project, located in the Murchison region of Western Australia, approximately 35 km north of Meekatharra. Phillips stated that the company originally aimed to build a pipeline of targets, but the interpretation revealed a large, previously unmapped fold structure along the entire eastern margin of the belt, where no drill holes or soil samples have ever been taken. The survey indicates a very large, structurally complex target within the project area that was previously invisible, and such a scale of greenfields exploration search space is rare in Western Australia.
The antiform structure has a strike length of over 8 km (eastern limb) within its tenement, with the western limb exceeding 6 km. Preliminary interpretation suggests it may control gold mineralization in the belt, with multiple historical gold prospects located on the limbs of the fold structure, including the Youngs and Lydia prospects of New Murchison Gold (ASX:NMG), and the Crown Prince deposit, which contains 2.2 million tonnes of ore at a grade of 3.30 g/t gold (Au), containing 228,400 ounces of gold.
PLC plans to complete a detailed interpretation of the survey data, followed by target generation over the coming months. Planned ground geological reconnaissance and mapping will also assess the suitability of soil sampling, with selected targets along the structural trend potentially advancing directly to air-core drilling where soil sampling potential is "poor." The company also expects assay results from its recently completed maiden reverse circulation drilling program (5 holes for 1,018 m) at Rochefort within weeks.
PLC Resources is a mineral exploration company focused on advancing gold and copper assets, with its work centered on its flagship Yalgoo and Abbotts North projects.
