en.Wedoany.com Reported - DP World's maritime services division, Shipping Solutions, has expanded its fleet by acquiring the container vessel DP World Indus. With a capacity exceeding 2,500 TEU, the vessel will be used to support India's domestic coastal trade.

The addition of DP World Indus enhances Shipping Solutions' capabilities in Indian coastal shipping, improving its ability to provide reliable, efficient, and sustainable cargo transportation between major Indian ports. By supporting cargo movement via coastal shipping, the vessel helps alleviate pressure on road networks and contributes to a more resilient and environmentally friendly supply chain.
DP World's Shipping Solutions coastal network in India currently covers 14 ports, with a dedicated fleet of 10 vessels. In 2025, the division handled over 473,000 TEUs through its coastal shipping operations.
The vessel's maiden voyage at the South Container Terminal (SCT) at Jeddah Islamic Port, operated by DP World, marks a milestone in DP World's strategy to strengthen trade connectivity by further integrating port and maritime services operations.
Ganesh Raj, Director of Global Maritime Services Operations at DP World, stated that India's coastal shipping industry presents significant opportunities to enhance supply chain efficiency and promote sustainable economic growth. The company's 2025 report, "Improving Indian Ship Registration: A Path to Global Competitiveness," documents this opportunity gap. The acquisition of DP World Indus, which sails under the Indian flag, reflects the company's commitment to strengthening domestic maritime connectivity and providing reliable services to connect businesses and markets across the country.
By improving connectivity between India's major manufacturing, industrial, and consumer hubs, DP World Indus will play a key role in facilitating container shipping along the Indian coast, offering customers an alternative to long-distance road transport.
The acquisition of DP World Indus aligns with DP World's overall strategy to support India's trade and logistics ecosystem by investing in maritime infrastructure, ports, logistics services, and supply chain solutions.
DP World's report, "Improving Indian Ship Registration: A Path to Global Competitiveness," outlines recommendations in areas such as governance reforms, tax and trade incentives, international promotion, and green transition initiatives. These measures aim to enhance competitiveness and align with India's Maritime Vision 2030.
Last year, DP World's Shipping Solutions also signed a memorandum of understanding with Sagarmala Financial Limited (SMFC), a company under India's Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, to collaborate on developing and expanding sustainable coastal and short-sea shipping services nationwide.
