en.Wedoany.com Reported - A historic estate in the village of Capinha, Fundão, Portugal, will be converted into a boutique hotel, scheduled to open in 2028, marking the first project of Accor's boutique hotel brand "Handwritten Collection" on the Iberian Peninsula.

The property, formerly known as "Casa do Vale Dourado" (also referred to as Solar dos Condes de Penha Garcia, the Palace of the Counts of Penha Garcia), spans 40 hectares and will center around a meticulously restored historic palace. According to Portuguese tourism publication Turisver, the building will house the hotel lobby, library, lounge, bar, and restaurant, along with 12 suites.
Upon completion, the hotel will offer a total of 81 guest rooms. Among these, 41 rooms will be located in a restored granite warehouse, while the remaining 28 rooms will be distributed across two-story family villas designed to blend into the surrounding landscape. Guests will also have access to a range of wellness facilities, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a Turkish bath, massage rooms, and a gym.
Situated between the Serra da Estrela and Serra da Gardunha mountain ranges, overlooking the Cova da Beira plain, the hotel's location provides a base for visitors to explore hiking, nature experiences, and other outdoor adventure activities in the region.
The historic estate has endured hardships. In December 1998, part of the property was destroyed by fire, but the palace survived and is now set to be restored. Its name "Vale Dourado" (Golden Valley) is inspired by the golden hues of autumn leaves blanketing the valley. The hotel will be managed by Amazing Evolution and is currently planned to open in 2028.
