en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to upgrade approximately 90 km of municipal infrastructure in three industrial zones—Ambattur, Guindy, and Vyasarpadi—covering roads, stormwater drains, sidewalks, and streetlights. As the first step of the project, the GCC will issue a tender to hire a consultant to prepare a detailed project report.

According to the GCC's Bus Route Roads Department, the project spans approximately 50 km in the Ambattur Industrial Zone, 20 km in the Guindy Industrial Zone, and 20 km in the Vyasarpadi Cooperative Industrial Zone. The appointed consultant will conduct detailed surveys of these three industrial zones to assess infrastructure needs and prepare a budget and phased implementation plan. The survey scope will include carriageways, sidewalks, stormwater drains, streetlights, solid waste management, and other essential services, with priority given to connectivity and drainage resilience. Based on the survey findings, the consultant will draft technical specifications, cost estimates, and a phased execution timeline to facilitate subsequent construction tenders by the GCC.
The upgrades in Ambattur and Guindy stem from a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year between the GCC and the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation. Under this MoU, the municipal body has assumed 30-year maintenance responsibility for roads, streetlights, stormwater drains, and solid waste management in these two industrial zones. The inclusion of Vyasarpadi responds to long-standing demands from workers and industrial stakeholders in this cooperative industrial zone, located in the Perambur constituency represented by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
GCC officials stated that consolidating the three industrial zones into a single project will streamline maintenance work and improve service levels for industrial units reliant on reliable municipal infrastructure. The corporation will implement the works in phases to minimize disruption to industrial activities and ensure timely handover of completed sections. Procurement of consultants and contractors will follow statutory tender procedures, with implementation supervised by the municipal administration.
