en.Wedoany.com Reported - The North Central Texas Council of Governments has launched a $1 million grant program for the procurement and installation of electric aircraft charging equipment at public airports in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, with applications due by 5:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time on August 7, 2026.

The funding, initially approved in September 2024, was originally intended to support advanced air mobility demonstration projects related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, Arlington abandoned the passenger-carrying concept after eVTOL certification and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations could not be completed before the event. The council subsequently redirected the funds toward permanent charging infrastructure and airport readiness, incorporating it into North Texas's participation in the broader eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP). The Texas Department of Transportation is leading the state's involvement, aiming to develop infrastructure, routes, and operational procedures for future electric aircraft demonstrations and services.
Airports within the council's 12-county planning area may apply for grants of up to $200,000, with no matching funds required. Eligible expenses include eVTOL chargers and the direct infrastructure necessary for their installation and operation; standalone power upgrade projects that do not result in charger installation are ineligible. The council stated that applications will be evaluated based on airport planning documents, understanding of advanced air transportation infrastructure, partnerships, and implementation timelines. Proposed projects must also demonstrate how the equipment will support future aircraft operators, demonstrations, or private investment.
