en.Wedoany.com Reported - New Zealand solar developer Lodestone Energy has officially commenced construction of a 31.5 MWp solar project in Central Hawke's Bay, which is expected to generate approximately 50 GWh of electricity annually from March 2027.

Located about 246 kilometers northeast of Wellington, the project will install 49,168 solar panels and adopt new string inverter technology along with four intelligent substations. The generated power will be connected to the network of distribution company Centralines. Covering 34 hectares, the site was previously used for hay grazing and beef cattle or lamb farming, and will continue to be used for sheep grazing after completion.

The project, a joint venture between Centralines and Lodestone Energy, will become the first utility-scale solar farm in Hawke's Bay. Centralines Board Chair Fenton Wilson stated that the project is a long-term investment in the region's future. As a user-owned line company, the company focuses on supporting energy resilience, fostering future growth, and providing enduring value and competitive pricing options for users.

Lodestone Energy Managing Director Gary Holden said the project demonstrates what can be achieved through partnerships and a shared commitment to renewable energy. He noted that the project will contribute to accelerating renewable energy development in New Zealand and bring local benefits by providing local power generation for Central Hawke's Bay. Through the company's recently launched EASY program, Hawke's Bay residents can share the benefits of local solar power generation with favorable energy prices and innovative pricing plans, thereby mitigating fluctuations in energy bills.
