en.Wedoany.com Reported - The team led by Wang Yu from the First Design Institute (Marine Institute) of CCCC Water Transportation Consultants successfully implemented China's first ecological restoration demonstration project for port industrial shoreline retreat and restoration at the Rizhao Port North Area, rehabilitating 460,000 square meters of natural sandy coastline and native intertidal ecosystems.

This project is a key initiative under the national Blue Bay Remediation Action. The original site was a coal storage and transportation operation area, where long-term industrial activities led to the encroachment of coastal ecological space, dust from stockyards affecting the living environment, and hard industrial shoreline fragmenting the urban coastal corridor, exacerbating conflicts between the port, city, and residents. Addressing the industry challenge of beach formation and sand stabilization in open waters, the project team collaborated with research institutions such as the First Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ocean University of China. Leveraging massive hydrological, wave, and sediment field data, and through multiple rounds of mathematical and physical model simulations, they optimized the marine area governance layout. The team adopted a curved diversion and regulation embankment layout to reshape the hydrodynamic environment of the sea area. By scientifically deploying flexible protective facilities such as curved long embankments, submerged embankments, and sand-separating embankments, combined with the synergistic effect of artificial sand replenishment and natural sedimentation, they effectively solved the problems of sediment migration and beach instability.

The project completed ecological restoration of 1,882 meters of shoreline, built 2,028 meters of sand-separating embankments, and created approximately 290,000 square meters of ecological buffer zones and public waterfront spaces. The former coal stockyard has been transformed into a coastal landscape belt, and the project has been recognized as a national typical case of port industrial shoreline retreat and restoration.

In August 2024, Wang Yu's team also took the lead in the marine ecological restoration project in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. Targeting issues such as nearshore ecological degradation and biodiversity loss, the project established a coordinated governance approach of "watershed-estuary-harbor," integrating land-based pollution reduction, salt marsh wetland restoration, and marine habitat reconstruction. Combining the terrain of the "Lijiang Beach" in Jiantiao Port and the distribution characteristics of oyster farming, the team deployed ecological reefs in a differentiated manner, creating a 29.12-hectare three-dimensional artificial oyster reef. This effectively supplemented local oyster seedling resources and promoted the transformation of traditional tidal flat aquaculture towards ecological and large-scale operations. The project ranked first in Zhejiang Province's marine ecological restoration project evaluation and seventh nationwide.
