en.Wedoany.com Reported - LG Electronics is strengthening its global supply chain for advanced glass powder-based materials. A new production line has been launched at its manufacturing plant in Haiphong, Vietnam, dedicated to producing key materials such as LG PuroTec™ and Easy-Clean Enamel, making the facility a crucial production base for the company's advanced materials business.

LG Electronics strengthens its global supply chain for advanced glass powder-based materials through a new production line at its Haiphong manufacturing plant in Vietnam, producing key materials including LG PuroTec™ and Easy-Clean Enamel.

The Haiphong plant has added an annual glass powder production capacity of 2,000 tons. Covering an area of 3,200 square meters, this facility is LG's second production base, complementing its existing plant at LG Smart Park in Changwon, South Korea, which has a capacity of 4,500 tons. The Changwon and Haiphong facilities form a dual production system aimed at enhancing supply stability and delivery responsiveness for global customers.

The new production line will produce approximately 2,000 tons of materials annually, including LG PuroTec™ and Easy-Clean Enamel.

The new plant employs advanced manufacturing technologies to improve production efficiency and product quality stability. Approximately 80% of the processes, including raw material input, melting, cooling, crushing, packaging, and transportation, have been automated. During the melting process—a critical step in glass powder production—LG applies advanced process control technology to maintain temperature uniformity within the furnace, reducing composition deviations that could affect material performance. Additionally, technologies to minimize furnace lining erosion help prevent contamination and enhance the purity of the final product.

LG PuroTec™ produced at the Haiphong plant is an advanced material with antibacterial and antifungal properties. When added in small amounts to plastics, paints, or rubber, PuroTec™ helps inhibit microbial growth, thereby reducing odors and contamination. This product can be widely used in home appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners, as well as in building materials, hygiene products, food packaging, and medical devices. The plant also produces Easy-Clean Enamel, a functional coating material that forms a thin glass-ceramic layer on metal surfaces. When used inside cooking appliances such as ovens and microwaves, this material facilitates easy cleaning of grease and food residues, and offers good resistance to discoloration and scratching over long-term use.

The new plant employs advanced manufacturing technologies to improve production efficiency and quality stability, with approximately 80% of processes—including raw material input, melting, cooling, crushing, packaging, and transportation—automated.

Furthermore, LG is exploring new applications for glass powder technology. By adjusting the composition, the company has developed "Marine Glass," a material designed to dissolve in water, providing nutrients for seaweed and microalgae to support marine ecosystem restoration and carbon reduction; as well as "Mineral Wash," which enables washing without the use of surfactants.

LG began research on glass powder in 1996 and currently holds over 420 related patents. After fully launching its advanced materials business in 2023, the company has completed antibacterial registrations in Europe and the United States and passed hazardous substance assessments, expanding its global regulatory compliance readiness. Since the launch of this business, sales of advanced materials have more than doubled annually. Baek Seung-tae, President of LG Home Appliance Solutions Company, stated that based on the company's production capabilities and quality competitiveness, it will continue to expand business opportunities by providing differentiated material solutions to meet customers' evolving needs.
