Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 21, Australia exported 2.54 million tonnes of wheat, including 36,600 tonnes of durum, in June 2025, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). This figure reflects a slight decrease from May but contributes to a total of 17.58 million tonnes shipped during the first nine months of the 2024/25 marketing year, which spans October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025.

For containerized shipments in June, Malaysia led as the top market with 26,300 tonnes, followed closely by Taiwan with 25,200 tonnes and Thailand with 24,500 tonnes. In bulk shipments, Indonesia was the largest buyer at 628,800 tonnes, followed by the Philippines with 316,300 tonnes and South Africa with 171,000 tonnes. These figures highlight Australia’s strong trade relationships in the Asia-Pacific and African markets.

Over the nine months to June 2025, Indonesia remained the leading bulk wheat buyer with 2.78 million tonnes, followed by the Philippines at 2.12 million tonnes and China at 1.36 million tonnes. June 2025 exports were more than double the 1.25 million tonnes recorded in June 2024, reflecting robust global demand for Australian wheat.

An ABS spokesperson noted: “The consistent export volumes in the first three quarters of the 2024/25 marketing year demonstrate Australia’s strong position in meeting global wheat demand, particularly in key markets across Asia and Africa.”

The growth in export volumes underscores Australia’s role as a reliable supplier of high-quality wheat, driven by efficient production and logistics. The country’s wheat industry continues to support global food security, with containerized shipments catering to smaller, high-value markets and bulk shipments serving large-scale industrial needs.

The ABS data highlights the importance of infrastructure like port facilities and shipping networks in facilitating Australia’s wheat exports. The sustained demand from major buyers such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and China reflects confidence in Australian wheat’s quality and availability. As the 2024/25 marketing year progresses, Australia is well-positioned to maintain its competitive edge in the global grain market, supporting economic growth through trade and agricultural expertise.
