Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 21, Talos Energy, a Houston-based energy company, has announced a new oil discovery at the Daenerys exploration prospect in the Gulf of America, within Walker Ridge blocks 106, 107, 150, and 151. The find, achieved using Seadrill’s West Vela deepwater drillship, follows Talos’ earlier success at the Katmai West #2 well in the Ewing Bank area, where commercial quantities of oil and natural gas were identified.
West Vela drillship
The Daenerys well, drilled to a depth of 33,228 feet, revealed oil in multiple high-quality, sub-salt Miocene sands. A detailed wireline program collected core, fluid, and log data to assess the reservoir’s potential. The drilling was completed 12 days ahead of schedule and $16 million under budget, showcasing operational efficiency. Talos holds a 27% working interest as the operator, with partners Shell Offshore (22.5%), Red Willow (22.5%), Houston Energy (10%), Cathexis (9%), and HEQ II Daenerys (9%) sharing the remaining stake.
Paul Goodfellow, Talos President and Chief Executive Officer, stated: “We are encouraged by the results of our Daenerys discovery well, which confirms the presence of hydrocarbons and validates our geologic and geophysical models. We believe these results support Talos’s pre-drill resource assumptions. We are now working closely with our partners to design an appraisal program that will further delineate this exciting discovery. We anticipate spudding the appraisal well in the second quarter of 2026.”
The discovery well has been temporarily suspended to maintain its future usability, with plans for an appraisal well in the second quarter of 2026 to further evaluate the resource. This discovery strengthens Talos’ exploration portfolio in the Gulf of America, building on its expertise in offshore energy development.
Talos’ collaboration with industry partners and use of advanced drilling technologies underscore its commitment to efficient resource exploration. The Daenerys prospect’s success supports the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the region, contributing to global energy needs while maintaining high operational standards.
The project’s cost and time savings highlight Talos’ ability to deliver results effectively. As planning for the appraisal phase progresses, the Daenerys discovery positions Talos to play a significant role in the Gulf of America’s energy sector, supporting sustainable growth and resource development.
