Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 26, AECOM, a global infrastructure firm, has secured a contract to redevelop the Albert Park Pit Building, a motorsport street circuit in Melbourne, Australia, in collaboration with partners Icon and Woods Bagot. The project, announced on August 26, 2025, aims to enhance the facility’s infrastructure to align with other Formula 1 host cities while supporting community use.
The project is expected to be completed before the 2028 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Under the agreement, AECOM will provide comprehensive engineering services for the upgrade, which includes constructing 14 new garages, a modernized race control center, and an expanded Paddock Club to accommodate an additional 5,000 motorsport fans. The circuit attracted nearly half a million visitors this year, highlighting its significance as a global racing destination.
The redevelopment will feature seven indoor sports courts, an increase of two from the current setup, and upgraded clubrooms for local sports clubs using the outdoor fields. AECOM emphasized a holistic design approach, prioritizing constructability to minimize disruptions to the Formula 1 calendar. The use of timber in the Paddock Club will reduce the project’s carbon footprint, enhancing sustainability.
AECOM CEO for Australia and New Zealand, Mark McManamny, stated: “This investment into Albert Park for Formula 1 and community sports will help secure our city’s legacy for global fans and the local community alike. I am proud of the role our team will play in delivering an unforgettable experience for all.” The project is slated for completion in time for the 2028 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, ensuring Albert Park’s role as a host venue through 2037.
The upgraded facility will improve accessibility and amenities, enabling year-round use as a multi-functional community event space. Jochen Ristig, AECOM’s Australia and New Zealand Technical Director and Sector Lead for Sports, Arts, and Culture, noted: “This project builds on our proven track record of delivering high-performing and sustainable timber projects, including our recent work with Icon on the award-winning T3 Collingwood. Being involved in a project with such global recognition is a career highlight and brings out the best of AECOM’s integrated delivery capability.”
The redevelopment will enhance Albert Park’s infrastructure, supporting both international motorsport events and local community activities. By integrating sustainable materials and advanced engineering, the project aims to deliver a world-class facility that benefits Melbourne’s residents and global Formula 1 fans alike.
