Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 26, Ignitis Renewables has commenced commercial operations at the 137MW Silesia II wind farm in Opole Voivodeship, southern Poland, marking a significant milestone in the region’s renewable energy landscape. The wind farm, equipped with 38 Nordex N117/3600 turbines, is designed to supply electricity to approximately 177,000 households annually, making it one of Poland’s largest operational wind farms.
The total investment for the Silesia II project, encompassing acquisition and construction costs, is projected to reach up to €240 million. A company representative stated: “Ignitis added that Silesia II is one of the largest wind farms currently operating in Poland.” This achievement underscores Ignitis Renewables’ commitment to expanding clean energy infrastructure in Europe.
The launch of Silesia II increases the installed green energy capacity of Ignitis Group, the parent company, from 1.9GW to 2.1GW. Ignitis Group is pursuing a strategic goal to grow its green capacity to between 4GW and 5GW by 2030, up from 1.4GW in 2024. The company noted that this milestone aligns with its long-term objectives without impacting its 2025 adjusted EBITDA or investment guidance.
The Silesia II wind farm enhances Poland’s renewable energy capabilities, supporting the country’s transition to sustainable power sources. By generating clean electricity for a significant number of households, the project contributes to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting environmental sustainability in the region.
