Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 29, Taiwanese potassium sulfate (SOP) producer Green On has expanded its production capacity with the addition of two new Mannheim process lines totaling 20,000 tonnes per year, bringing its overall capacity to 100,000 tonnes annually by the second quarter of 2026. The company stated that the construction work is progressing smoothly and that the project will require another six months to complete auxiliary facilities in accordance with Taiwan’s regulatory requirements. Commercial operations are expected to begin as early as April 2026.

The Mannheim process is an industrial method used to produce SOP and its by-product, hydrochloric acid, by reacting muriate of potash (MOP) with sulfuric acid. SOP is a high-value potash fertilizer commonly applied to chlorine-sensitive crops such as tobacco, fruits, and vegetables. Its low chloride content and favorable nutrient composition make it particularly suitable for specialty and high-value agricultural production.

Green On explained that it will adjust the output of each product grade — standard, water-soluble, and granular SOP — based on changing market demand. This flexible allocation strategy is intended to enhance the company’s responsiveness to global market fluctuations and ensure a stable supply for different agricultural applications.

The company emphasized that the expansion aims to strengthen Taiwan’s domestic fertilizer production capabilities and improve supply stability for both local and regional agricultural industries. Green On also noted that with the completion of the new lines, it expects to enhance production efficiency and achieve greater economies of scale.

In addition to Green On’s project, fellow Taiwanese SOP producer Sesoda is also planning to expand its 140,000 tpy Mannheim plant. The company has begun internal evaluations of the expansion plan but has not yet finalized the timeline for the completion or the start of commercial production. Industry observers expect that Sesoda’s planned capacity increase will further boost Taiwan’s overall SOP production capability once implemented.

Both projects highlight continued investment in Taiwan’s fertilizer sector, reflecting growing demand for high-quality potash fertilizers in Asia. With agriculture increasingly focused on crop quality and environmental performance, SOP is becoming an essential input for high-value and chloride-sensitive crops.

Upon completion, Green On’s expanded capacity will reinforce its position as one of Taiwan’s key SOP suppliers, contributing to a more diversified and resilient fertilizer supply chain. The development also underscores the role of technological upgrades and process optimization in enhancing production stability and meeting the evolving requirements of the regional agricultural market.
