Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 20, Bahrain has launched a US$68.5 million road-infrastructure project to enhance access to Bahrain International Airport and reduce congestion on key routes serving the facility. The initiative forms part of Phase 3A of the airport’s ongoing expansion programme.

Transport to and from Bahrain will be improved with the completion of road works currently underway

The contract has been awarded to a joint venture between local contractor Nas Contracting and Saudi-based Nassir Hazza and Brothers. Part of the financing is provided by the Saudi Fund for Development.

The upgrades will increase peak-hour road capacity to 16,000 vehicles and significantly shorten travel times on the Arad Highway and Khalifa Al Kabeer Highway. A new dedicated free-flow left-turn bridge will be constructed at the intersection of the Khalifa Al Kabeer and Arad highways to eliminate existing bottlenecks.

The improvements respond to steady population growth in Muharraq and surrounding areas, as well as a rising number of registered vehicles using the airport corridor.

Upon completion, the project will provide smoother and faster connections for passengers, airport employees, and cargo traffic, supporting the continued development of Bahrain International Airport as a regional aviation hub.

Work is now under way, with the upgraded road network scheduled to open in line with the broader airport expansion timeline. The enhanced infrastructure is expected to deliver long-term benefits for both local residents and the kingdom’s transportation network.
