Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 25, Investment in China's battery sector is expanding rapidly across both lithium-ion and sodium-ion technologies, driven by strong demand from energy storage applications.

On November 20, Guangde Qingna Technology Co., Ltd. formally signed an agreement to establish a 20 GWh sodium-ion battery production facility in Suining Economic and Technological Development Zone, Sichuan Province.

The project involves a total planned investment of CNY 6 billion (approximately $835.98 million).

Upon completion, the new plant is expected to complement and create operational synergies with other sodium-ion related projects already under development within the same economic zone, further strengthening the regional supply chain for this emerging battery technology.

The initiative reflects growing industry confidence in sodium-ion batteries as a viable and cost-effective alternative to lithium-ion systems, particularly for large-scale stationary energy storage applications where raw material availability and long-term cost stability are key considerations.

Construction and commissioning of the Guangde Qingna facility will contribute to the ongoing expansion of sodium-ion production capacity nationwide, supporting continued growth in renewable energy integration and grid-scale storage solutions across various market segments.
