Wedoany.com Report-Dec.7, Zimbabwe is advancing several major highway rehabilitation projects to improve connectivity and support economic activity, particularly tourism.
Improving the road linking Beitbridge with Zimbabwe's second city, Bulawayo and connecting with Victoria Falls is expected to help boost tourism for the country
The key route from Beitbridge, at the South African border, through Bulawayo to Victoria Falls is undergoing comprehensive upgrades. This corridor serves as a vital link for both commercial traffic and visitors travelling to Victoria Falls and the Hawangi Game Reserve.
Two additional strategic highways are also being modernised: the Harare–Chirundu corridor, which connects the capital to the Zambian border, and the Harare–Nyamapanda route. Work is simultaneously progressing on the Trabablas interchange to enhance traffic flow and safety.
These improvements are expected to significantly boost tourism by providing smoother and more reliable access to Zimbabwe's major attractions. Enhanced road infrastructure will reduce travel times and operating costs for both passenger and freight transport.
All projects are scheduled for completion by March 2026. The upgrades are being carried out under the country's ongoing road rehabilitation programme aimed at restoring critical transport arteries.
Zimbabwe's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has successfully delivered the current phase of work despite exceeding its original budget allocation. Authorities are now addressing funding requirements for the remaining stages to ensure timely completion of the planned improvements.
The rehabilitated highways will strengthen domestic and regional trade links while facilitating easier access for international visitors, contributing to broader economic recovery efforts through increased tourism revenue and improved logistics efficiency.
