The Queens Park solar and battery hybrid project, located in western New South Wales, Australia, has recently been successfully connected to the grid. This project is Australia's first solar-plus-storage hybrid project on the national main grid to utilize a single Generator Performance Standards (GPS) connection point.
The project was developed by Potentia Energy with a total investment of approximately $190 million. The facilities include an 80MW solar farm and a 20MW / 40MWh battery energy storage system, and it is expected to be fully operational by 2026. Potentia stated, "This project demonstrates how renewable energy and battery storage can work together to provide reliable, cost-effective support for the grid." The design with a single GPS connection point requires the solar and battery systems to operate and be dispatched as a unified whole, differing from previous models where they were connected to the grid separately.
The majority of the electricity generated by the project has been contracted by the retailer Zen Energy.
