A new secondary school in North Whiteley, Hampshire, UK, has decided to use precast concrete technology for its foundation works. The project is being undertaken by Roger Bullivant Ltd in collaboration with Kier Construction.

A total of 400 piles, with mixed cross-sectional sizes of 250mm and 300mm, will be installed to support the main school building and the sports hall. Jim Hargreaves, Commercial Director of the company, stated: "By utilising precast concrete piles, we have delivered an efficient, sustainable, and community-friendly solution."

Compared to traditional wet-pour methods, the use of precast concrete pile foundations is considered to offer advantages such as faster construction and a cleaner site. The contractor will use a hammer piling rig to reduce operational noise. The new school, designed to accommodate 900 students, is scheduled to open in September 2027.
