The Ministry of Digital Development and Information of Singapore has announced that the country plans to invest approximately $786 million (S$1 billion) in public artificial intelligence research by 2030. This funding will be used to enhance Singapore's capabilities and competitiveness in AI, focusing on developing responsible and resource-efficient AI, strengthening talent development, and promoting industry applications.

Previously, the Singapore government has taken a series of initiatives. In 2024, it established a fund of approximately $393 million (S$500 million) specifically for high-performance computing infrastructure construction. At the same time, it allocated more than the same amount of funding to the Singapore AI Organization to support its research and development efforts. In terms of achievements, in 2023, the Singapore AI Association released the open-source language model Sea-Lion, which received about $55 million (S$70 million) in funding. This model has been adopted by companies such as GoTo in Indonesia. In October 2025, based on Alibaba's Qwen model, Singapore launched a new version of Sea-Lion, which improved support for multiple languages including Burmese, Filipino, Indonesian, Malay, Tamil, Thai, and Vietnamese.
