Wedoany.com Report on Feb 13th, WWF-Malaysia, in collaboration with SD Guthrie, has launched a five-year pilot program for regenerative palm oil in Sabah, Malaysia. This initiative aims to explore sustainable agricultural development models and represents the first attempt of its kind in the industry.
The collaboration will focus on the Tawau region of Sabah, covering an area of approximately 13,000 hectares across five Guthrie estates already certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). As part of WWF's "Reconnecting Borneo Initiative," the project will restore ecological connectivity by establishing a network of wildlife corridors.
Both parties will work together to build wildlife corridors in actual operations, enhance biodiversity conservation, and apply WWF's global regenerative palm oil framework. The plan not only focuses on certification standards but is also committed to achieving quantifiable improvements in biodiversity, increased climate resilience, enhanced community well-being, and optimized long-term production efficiency.
Sophia Lim, CEO of WWF-Malaysia, stated, "Through this groundbreaking collaboration, WWF-Malaysia and SD Guthrie are taking decisive steps to pilot regenerative palm oil practices and achieve landscape-scale biodiversity and climate outcomes in priority areas of Sabah."
