In February, the People's Committee of Lam Dong Province approved an adjustment plan, authorizing the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) to invest 59.855 trillion VND (approximately $2.3 billion) for the expansion of two alumina projects. This project has become the largest industrial investment project in the province's history.

According to the plan, the Nhan Co Alumina Plant located in Nhan Co and Kien Duc communes will invest approximately 29.986 trillion VND (about $1.16 billion) to add a new production line with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tons, covering an area of 870 hectares. The project is scheduled to commence operation in 2030, with an operational cycle of 30 years. Its products will be supplied to both domestic and export markets.

The Lam Dong Bauxite-Aluminum Complex located in Bao Lam 1 commune will invest approximately 29.869 trillion VND (about $1.15 billion) to construct a second production line with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tons of alumina, covering an area of 20.79 hectares. The construction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2030, with formal operation commencing in the fourth quarter.

Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, General Director of Vinacomin, stated that upon the completion of both projects, the group's total alumina production capacity will increase to 4 million tons per year, doubling its current capacity. It is projected to contribute approximately 4 trillion VND (about $157 million) in annual tax revenue and create 3,000 new jobs in the Central Highlands region.
