Wedoany.com Report on Mar 6th, The Baltic Sea region has recently been hit by severe winter ice conditions, leading to multiple cargo ships being trapped. Since late February, ice accumulation has affected shipping in several countries, and icebreakers are working around the clock to ensure safe navigation.

The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency reported that due to extremely low temperatures in the Gulf of Finland, several vessels navigating in Finnish territorial waters and nearby international waters have become trapped. The current ice cover area in the Baltic Sea has reached 181,000 square kilometers, significantly exceeding the typical winter average of about 141,000 square kilometers.

Finnish officials stated that ice conditions may worsen in early March, but normal navigation is expected to resume before the end of the month. Baltic icebreaker operations are ongoing to alleviate shipping disruptions.

Recalling the winter of 2010-2011, the Baltic Sea ice cover area once reached 309,000 square kilometers, with local ice thickness up to 70 centimeters. While the current ice conditions have not reached historical peaks, they have already caused significant impacts on regional shipping.
