Wedoany.com Report on Mar 11th, Cool Planet Technologies (CPT) has validated the effectiveness of its membrane-based carbon capture system through on-site demonstrations at its pilot plant in Grimsby, UK. Visitors from the cement, lime, and steel industries observed real-time measurements of carbon dioxide before and after capture, with data continuously monitored by Vaisala MGP241 online probes.Image of the pilot plant demonstration setup

The demonstration results showed that the CPT system's capture rate was within one percent of the predicted performance, confirming the technology's reliability and high efficiency. Founded in 2019, CPT, which focuses on scalable decarbonization solutions, is commercializing membrane technology developed in collaboration with Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon.

The system utilizes flat-sheet PolyActive™️ membranes, requires no chemicals, and features high efficiency, long service life, and a compact modular design. At the Grimsby pilot site, two modules operating in series are capable of capturing up to thirty-seven thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Vaisala probes continuously measure CO₂ concentrations at each process stage, ensuring the accuracy of the system's performance. These demonstrations lay the groundwork for the commissioning of CPT's ten-thousand-ton-per-year carbon capture plant in Höver, which is scheduled to become operational in the second quarter of 2026.

CPT aims to achieve a ninety-five percent carbon dioxide recovery rate at the Höver plant, demonstrating the potential of its membrane technology for reducing industrial emissions. In collaboration with Holcim, CPT plans to scale the technology into a full-plant system capable of capturing approximately eight hundred thousand tons of CO₂ annually, targeting hard-to-abate industrial sectors.

The company emphasizes that proven performance and transparency are crucial for gaining trust and promoting decarbonization technologies. This demonstration represents progress in industrial carbon capture, offering membrane-based solutions as a viable method for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

CPT's achievements highlight the importance of scalable and reliable carbon capture technology in achieving global climate goals while maintaining industrial production and sustainability. The Grimsby pilot plant serves as a model for future deployments, validating membrane-based carbon capture as a key tool in transitioning to low-carbon industrial processes.
