en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 23rd, Gyeonggi-do Hanam City recently requested that the Hanam section of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway be completed ahead of schedule by 2032 to accommodate the occupancy schedule of the Gyosan New City. Previously, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung instructed the restart of this expressway project, but the original construction timeline conflicted with the new city's schedule.

Hanam City stated that the government's proposed expressway advancement schedule plans to start construction by the end of 2029, with completion targeted around 2033. However, the first residents are scheduled to move into Gyosan New City starting in 2029, with most occupancy expected to be completed by 2032. Hanam City considers this an excessively delayed plan that could cause inconvenience to residents.

To minimize resident inconvenience, Hanam City plans to request the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to prioritize the advancement of the Hanam section, including "Seoul to Gyosan New City (Sangsachang IC) to Sang Valley Enterprise Relocation Zone (Sang Valley IC) to Central Expressway (Bukgwangju JCT)", ensuring its completion by 2032. This request aims to optimize the overall timeline of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway and meet the transportation needs of the new city's development.

The currently planned starting section of the expressway begins from an underground section in Ganil New City. Residents of Ganil, concerned about traffic inconvenience, have consistently requested changes to the starting section. Hanam City has decided to actively reflect these resident requests when re-advancing the project and recommend their inclusion in project considerations to relevant agencies.

The Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway is a road connecting Hanam City and Yangpyeong-gun. The project was suspended in July 2023 due to disputes over route changes. In a recent briefing, Senior Presidential Secretary for Civil Affairs Hong Ik-pyo stated that President Lee instructed the restart of the project and explained the construction start and completion times. Hanam City's request for early completion aims to ensure the expressway progresses in coordination with regional development.
