en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 28th, In response to the practical needs of the artificial intelligence era for language and writing, and to advance the construction of the language and writing standard system, the Ministry of Education and the National Language Commission have recently officially released two language standards: "Grading Standards and Assessment Outline for Machine-Synthesized Mandarin Proficiency" and "Artificial Intelligence - Corpora - Basic Terminology." These are China's first specialized language and writing standards formulated for the field of artificial intelligence, filling a regulatory gap in this area.
The "Grading Standards and Assessment Outline for Machine-Synthesized Mandarin Proficiency" focuses on speech synthesis technology. It defines grading criteria for key indicators such as clarity, naturalness, and intelligibility of machine-synthesized Mandarin, and establishes corresponding assessment methods and grading standards. With the popularization of generative AI, speech synthesis technology has been widely used in scenarios such as intelligent customer service, voice assistants, and audiobooks. However, there has long been a lack of unified evaluation standards. The introduction of this standard will provide a scientific basis for quality assessment of speech synthesis products and promote the development of technology to a higher level.
The "Artificial Intelligence - Corpora - Basic Terminology" standard, targeting the corpora upon which AI training relies, unifies and standardizes basic terminology related to corpus collection, annotation, cleaning, and management. This lays a linguistic foundation for data governance and standardization in the field of artificial intelligence. The quality of corpora directly determines the training effectiveness of AI models. The unification of terminology helps standardize industry practices, reduce the cost of data exchange across institutions and platforms, and enhance the standardization level of Chinese corpora.
These two standards were developed under the organization of the Language Application Research Institute of the Ministry of Education (National Language Commission Mandarin and Character Application Training and Testing Center). They were reviewed and approved by the National Language Commission's Language and Writing Standards (Specifications) Examination Committee and have been officially published by the Language and Culture Press.
With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, language and writing, as the fundamental medium for human-computer interaction, are becoming increasingly important in standardization efforts. The release of these two standards represents a significant initiative by China's language and writing authorities to proactively adapt to technological changes and provides foundational support for the healthy development of the artificial intelligence industry. The Ministry of Education and the National Language Commission stated that they will continue to advance the development of related standards in the field of artificial intelligence language applications.
