en.Wedoany.com Reported - Canadian mining company Mkango Resources Ltd. (AIM: MKA) and UK-based HyProMag Limited recently completed the first trial run of their commercial-scale hydrogen processing vessel for rare earth magnet scrap in Germany. The trial was conducted at a HyProMag rare earth magnet recycling and manufacturing facility in Germany, which has obtained all necessary operating permits and targets an annual production capacity of 750 tonnes of NdFeB magnets and alloys.

The core of this trial is a patented hydrogen processing technology for magnet scrap. The facility houses a complete commercial-scale rare earth sintered magnet recycling and manufacturing production line, designed to convert end-of-life magnets into reusable rare earth materials. HyProMag plans to phase in production increases over the next three years to achieve its ultimate target of 750 tonnes per year.

William Dawes, CEO of Mkango Resources, stated that the company continues to evaluate complementary acquisitions and organic growth opportunities across the rare earth supply chain. He emphasized that as HyProMag advances the construction of its rare earth magnet recycling plants in the UK and the US, and Mkango progresses its rare earth mining and separation projects in Malawi and Poland, the company aims to build a supply system for rare earth products covering the entire chain from mining and separation to recycling. Neil Britto, Managing Director of HyProMag, added that the completion of this trial marks a new phase for the company and is a significant step towards strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy and reducing external dependence in rare earth supply.

In addition to Germany, HyProMag is simultaneously commercializing this hydrogen processing technology in the UK and the US, and evaluating its potential application in other jurisdictions such as Japan, Canada, and South Korea. In the UK, in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, HyProMag has built and commenced initial production at a rare earth magnet recycling plant in the Tyseley Energy Park, Birmingham. The hydrogen processing reactor used at this plant can recycle over 400 kg of rare earth alloy per batch and uses the recycled material to produce new sintered magnets, with a single-shift annual capacity of 100 tonnes. In the US, a feasibility study for a large-scale rare earth magnet manufacturing operation has been completed, detailed engineering design is underway, with the target of achieving first production in 2027.

Mkango Resources is a Canadian mineral exploration and development company listed on both the Toronto and London stock exchanges, with its core business focused on recycling and producing rare earth magnets, alloys, and oxides.
