en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) plans to construct a facility on the premises of Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant for analyzing radioactive substances contained in treated water and other liquids before their discharge into the ocean. The facility is scheduled for completion in November 2027.

The new facility, named the "Radioactive Substance Analysis and Research Facility Annex," will be built next to the existing "Building No. 1" on the western side of the site. This building is a two-story reinforced concrete structure with a total floor area of approximately 900 square meters. It will be equipped with ventilation hoods to generate airflow for safely handling radioactive substances, as well as liquid analysis equipment. The facility is expected to receive up to 30 liters of radioactive material per batch, with a capacity for 12 such batches per year.

Tokyo Electric Power Company, which is responsible for guiding and supervising the facility's safety management, submitted the relevant plan to the Nuclear Regulation Authority in March.

The Japan Atomic Energy Agency, acting as an independent third party separate from Tokyo Electric Power Company, will conduct the analysis of radioactive substance concentrations in the treated water before its ocean discharge. By relocating the treated water analysis work to the new building, the capacity of the original building for analyzing solid waste (such as debris) will be enhanced.
