en.Wedoany.com Reported - Bechtel has secured a $4.69 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) expansion contract from Cheniere Energy to build Train 7 of the Sabine Pass Liquefaction Expansion Project Phase 1 in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

The engineering firm, headquartered in Reston, Virginia, announced on May 28 that it had received a limited notice to proceed. According to a filing by owner Cheniere Energy with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on May 22, Bechtel's contract is valued at $4.69 billion. As per Cheniere Energy's website, Train 7 will have a peak capacity of approximately 6 million tonnes per annum (6 MTPA) once completed. Sabine Pass is adjacent to Cameron Parish and Jefferson County, Texas.

The two companies have a decades-long history of collaboration. Between 2005 and 2009, Bechtel designed, built, and expanded the facility's original LNG receiving terminal, laying the foundation for Sabine Pass to transform into the first large-scale LNG export facility in the United States. Subsequently, from 2016 to 2022, Bechtel delivered six liquefaction trains at the site, adding approximately 30 million tonnes per annum (30 MTPA) of export capacity.

"As global energy demand grows and countries seek secure and reliable supplies, LNG will continue to play a critical role in the energy mix for decades to come," said Paul Marsden, President of Bechtel Energy, in the announcement.

Currently, Bechtel is building 17 liquefaction trains across five sites in two countries, with five mid-scale trains already handed over. These projects include engineering work for NextDecade's Rio Grande LNG facility in Brownsville, Texas, where the company has finalized and executed contracts for Trains 4 and 5, totaling $9 billion—$4.77 billion for Train 4 and $4.32 billion for Train 5. Bechtel's projects also encompass the Woodside Louisiana LNG terminal in Sulphur, Louisiana, for which Australia's Woodside Energy selected Bechtel in December 2024, with a total contract value expected to reach $27 billion.
