en.Wedoany.com Reported - Russia's state-owned defense electronics group KRET has approved a 2.5 billion ruble plan to expand the airborne navigation system manufacturing capacity at its Elektropribor plant in the Tambov region.

The core of the plan involves constructing a new production facility with an area of over 12,000 square meters within the plant to support higher-volume production of more advanced avionics.

The expanded site will be dedicated to producing strapdown inertial navigation systems based on laser gyroscope technology, which are planned to be integrated into Russia's domestically produced civil aircraft series, including the MS-21, Superjet 100, Il-114-300, Tu-214, and Il-96.

Once fully operational, the production line is expected to support the manufacture of approximately 200 navigation system units and create around 500 additional local jobs.

Elektropribor is one of the major high-tech employers in the Tambov region, currently with about 4,500 employees. Local authorities believe the project will help increase industrial capacity and strengthen the local high-tech workforce reserve.

This investment is part of broader efforts by Russia's civil aviation sector to expand domestic avionics capabilities and localize key subsystems, particularly inertial navigation equipment, to serve next-generation civil transport aircraft programs.
