en.Wedoany.com Reported - British Petroleum (bp plc) has awarded a contract to the SLB OneSubsea joint venture to provide a subsea boosting system for the Thunder Horse project in the Gulf of Mexico.

Under the engineering, procurement, and construction contract, SLB OneSubsea will deliver a subsea boosting system and provide project management, engineering, manufacturing, and testing services. SLB announced the contract on June 8.

bp made a final investment decision in May to install subsea pumps at the Thunder Horse field, aiming to boost production from this ultra-deepwater platform. The operator stated at the time that the project, expected to start up in 2028, would increase peak annual production by approximately 15,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day—an effect equivalent to drilling up to two new wells while also reducing pressure on existing wells.

bp plans to extend subsea pump technology to the Kaskida and Tiber development projects, which are expected to come online in 2029 and 2030, respectively. bp has also awarded subsea boosting contracts for these projects to SLB OneSubsea.

The Thunder Horse platform, located in the Mississippi Canyon area at water depths exceeding 6,000 feet, began production in June 2008. The platform can process 250,000 barrels of crude oil per day (gross) and 200 million cubic feet of natural gas per day (gross). bp is the operator of Thunder Horse with a 75% stake, while partner ExxonMobil holds 25%.
