en.Wedoany.com Reported - Cybersecurity provider 1Password (AgileBits Inc.) is strengthening its capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence security by acquiring Apono Ltd. The companies announced the deal today, but did not disclose financial details.
Toronto-based 1Password is best known for its password manager of the same name, which offers a version for individual consumers as well as a more feature-rich enterprise edition. The company also provides tools to help businesses manage software-as-a-service spending and secure employee devices.
Tel Aviv-based startup Apono specializes in providing a just-in-time access management platform to secure enterprise cloud environments. Its customers include Intel Corp., Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co., and Workday Inc. Apono's platform limits the time windows during which employees can access sensitive systems. For example, when an engineer needs to log into a financial database to apply a patch, the software can make the database management console accessible for 20 minutes. This approach minimizes the opportunity for hackers to launch cyberattacks after gaining access to an administrator account.
The platform also manages access permissions for AI agents. Agents must explain in natural language why they need to access a specific system. Apono analyzes the request, automatically configures the necessary permissions, and revokes them when no longer needed. When an agent requests access to a system containing sensitive data, Apono forwards the request to an administrator for approval. If an agent attempts to perform an action inconsistent with its access request description, Apono adjusts its permissions.
Controlling AI agent access to sensitive systems is also a key focus of the Unified Access product that 1Password launched in March. 1Password plans to leverage Apono's technology to enhance this product and increase integration with the Credential Broker tool, which entered private beta on the same day. Credential Broker provides an encrypted environment for storing passwords, application programming interface tokens, and other login data. The tool features a just-in-time access mechanism similar to Apono's, granting AI agent credentials to log into services "on demand," according to 1Password.
David Faugno, CEO of 1Password, said: "By combining Apono's just-in-time provisioning and intent-based policy enforcement with 1Password's zero-knowledge vault and Credential Broker, we deliver a solution: unlocking the highest-value AI use cases while keeping people in control."
