en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Presidential eThekwini Working Group (PeWG) has reported that the Insimbi Ridge development project in Cato Ridge has officially commenced, with heavy equipment already on site, and the total investment amount for the project is R10 billion.

The working group stated in its update on the latest progress of eThekwini's infrastructure and investment projects that cranes and other yellow construction equipment have begun operations on site.

The project, jointly launched by Assore SA PropCo and the Rail Development Company (RDC) in November last year, is part of the planned Durban-Gauteng Corridor logistics park. Developers noted at the launch ceremony that the project will provide inland transshipment, warehousing, and multimodal freight capacity to support the movement of goods between Durban and inland markets. The park plans to connect to the national rail network via a proposed dedicated line to Cato Ridge station.

RDC project leader Sibusisiwe Nodada stated that the development aims to integrate road, rail, and port infrastructure into a single logistics node. Developers previously disclosed that the first phase will construct approximately 33,000 square meters of logistics and industrial facilities, including core cold storage and warehousing facilities for logistics operator FPT Group. The entire park covers approximately 500 hectares and has been designated by both provincial and municipal governments as a catalytic project on the Durban-Gauteng freight corridor.

Developers expect the project to begin operations in 2027.
