Garnet is a scarce and high-value special non-metallic mineral, with only about 80 registered compliant mines in China. The Xingtai mining area features a stratoid ore body with a dip angle of 13° to 25°, a single-layer thickness of only 3.41 to 5.92 meters, high ore rock hardness, and narrow mining spaces. Traditional blasting mining methods face multiple pain points, including significant safety hazards, severe resource waste, and prominent ecological disturbances. The industry has long lacked a complete mining solution suitable for thin ore bodies and high-hardness ore layers.
The project team from Sinosteel Shijiazhuang Design Institute abandoned traditional blasting approaches and focused on tackling key technical challenges such as underground sawing equipment layout, ventilation and transportation systems, roof and surrounding rock protection, and emergency response to accidents. They innovatively built an integrated safety mining system combining static sawing, intelligent control, and specialized dust and noise management, filling the technical gap in China's underground non-metallic mine non-blasting sawing mining field. Compared to traditional blasting processes, static sawing mining achieves comprehensive upgrades in four dimensions: safety, resource utilization, ecological and environmental protection, and production efficiency.
The expert panel unanimously determined that the solution's technical approach is scientifically feasible, the safety assurance system is comprehensive, and the green mining measures are complete, approving the review.
