en.Wedoany.com Reported - BAE Systems has successfully demonstrated the resilient operation of its Endura™ system-on-chip (SoC) space processor in natural space and the most severe strategic radiation environments.

BAE Systems Endura SoC

Joe Dziezynski, Director of Space Systems Product Line at BAE Systems, stated that this milestone positions the Endura SoC as a leading high-performance processor in the space domain. Based on commercial foundry technology, this SoC delivers smaller, lower-power, and more cost-effective solutions for missions operating in harsh radiation environments.

The Endura SoC is developed using BAE Systems' commercial radiation-hardened 45-nanometer (RH45®) technology. This technology is built on GlobalFoundries' (GF) commercial 45-nanometer silicon-on-insulator platform and is securely manufactured at GF's facility in New York. The RH45® technology provides a certified advanced commercial-permission capability library and a proven application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design methodology. Strategic radiation testing has demonstrated that this technology also enhances the survivability of other space system components, such as single-board computers.

Ezra Hall, Senior Director of Aerospace and Defense at GlobalFoundries, noted that GF's facility in Malta, New York, is a cornerstone of trusted semiconductor manufacturing in the United States, providing a secure domestic base technology for critical mission aerospace and defense applications. Through collaboration with the U.S. government, GF and BAE Systems are expanding strategic manufacturing and technological advancements to address the evolving demands for resilient, trusted, and scalable microelectronics.

The SoC is being integrated into BAE Systems' next-generation Endura product line, which will encompass general-purpose processing, networking, secure boot, and other functions. Endura products feature powerful processor cores with integrated Level 1 and Level 2 caches, along with advanced FPGA components for mission-specific acceleration and hardware-accelerated input/output, achieving exponential improvements in size, speed, power, and processing efficiency. As a platform-independent supplier, BAE Systems develops and manufactures high-reliability space electronics, ranging from standard components and single-board computers to complete system payloads, and continues to offer products for high-reliability Class A missions as well as lower-assurance Class C/D missions with corresponding pricing.

BAE Systems is currently accepting orders for software development units centered on the Endura SoC, with rapid delivery available. The related work is performed by its Space Systems division in Manassas, Virginia. This facility is designated by the U.S. Department of War as a Category 1A trusted microelectronics source, covering design, aggregation, brokerage, packaging, assembly, and testing services.
