en.Wedoany.com Reported - Red Eléctrica (REE) has confirmed that, following the implementation of Royal Decree-Law 7/2026 (Real Decreto-ley 7/2026), 16 electricity consumption facilities have renounced their access and connection permits, releasing a total of 1,040 MW of previously reserved transmission grid access capacity.

These renunciations are a direct result of the economic compensation provisions for reserved access capacity introduced by this decree. This mechanism allows permit holders to voluntarily renounce their permits before June 22 to avoid paying the corresponding compensation, thereby making available capacity that was previously reserved but whose projects had not entered the execution phase.
After applying technical calculation standards, Red Eléctrica has allocated the released capacity to the Balsicas 220 kV, Tabernas 220 kV, and Totana 400 kV nodes. A new allocation process specifically for electricity demand projects will be initiated at these nodes. A key change in the new regulatory framework is that the released capacity will not return to the generation market but will be reserved for new electricity consumption.
The allocation procedure is expected to involve the Directorate General for Energy Policy and Mines (Dirección General de Política Energética y Minas) formally publishing the list of nodes and available capacity. From the date of publication, interested parties will have four months to submit new electricity demand applications. Subsequently, applications will be evaluated and prioritized according to the criteria established in Article 13 of Royal Decree-Law 7/2026, giving priority to so-called high-priority consumption projects.
