en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) of Peru emphasized the core role of photovoltaic power generation in strengthening energy security, diversifying the national energy mix, and narrowing the electricity access gap during the forum "Photovoltaic Power: The Key to Energy Equity in Peru."

This forum, co-organized by MINEM and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), brought together representatives from the public sector, international cooperation agencies, academia, businesses, and domestic and international experts to share experiences and promote the sustainable use of solar energy.

Deputy Minister of Electricity Luis Santillán Cervantes noted at the opening ceremony that despite significant progress in electrification over the past decades, gaps in electricity coverage persist, primarily affecting the Amazon, the Andes, and other remote rural and dispersed populations. He emphasized that photovoltaic power generation serves as a strategic alternative to accelerate the narrowing of these gaps, providing electricity to more Peruvians through innovative solutions and creating opportunities for economic and social development. He also highlighted that Peru's vast solar potential offers opportunities to strengthen the energy transition and promote sustainable growth.

During the forum, several keynote speeches were delivered, covering topics such as solar energy potential to support Peru's energy transition, international experiences in renewable energy development, good practices for expanding electricity access, and strategies to enhance energy resilience against the impacts of climate variability.

The event saw participation from UNOPS, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the British Embassy, as well as experts from MINEM and representatives from the private sector. Deputy Minister Luis Santillán Cervantes stressed that collaboration among the state, international cooperation, academia, and the private sector is crucial for identifying solutions, sharing knowledge, and strengthening capacity building to expand energy access nationwide.

In his closing remarks, Jhonwert Retamozo, Director General of Energy Efficiency at MINEM, emphasized the need to continue fostering technical dialogue spaces to reinforce understanding of the role of photovoltaic power in Peru's sustainable development and in building a more inclusive, resilient, and equitable energy system.
