en.Wedoany.com Reported - Hanon Systems, a global automotive thermal management solutions provider and a member of the Hankook & Company Group, has released a white paper highlighting its next-generation PFAS-free natural refrigerant technology.

The white paper outlines the environmental limitations of conventional fluorinated refrigerants and presents a roadmap for adopting natural refrigerant technology as a sustainable alternative. As the automotive industry increasingly focuses on long-term environmental sustainability, widely used refrigerants such as R1234yf, which converts into trifluoroacetic acid (TFA)—a persistent environmental pollutant—have created an urgent need for viable long-term solutions.

To address these challenges, Hanon Systems showcases its research and development progress in natural refrigerant technologies based on carbon dioxide (R744) and propane (R290). The company's R744 technology, including electric compressors, refrigerant valves, accumulator/internal heat exchangers, and gas coolers, has been successfully commercialized and applied in over one million vehicles. Building on this, Hanon Systems is also advancing R290-based solutions as a PFAS-free alternative for future mobility.

Soo Il Lee, Vice Chairman and CEO of Hanon Systems, stated that the release of this white paper reflects the company's strong technical capabilities and proactive commitment to addressing evolving global regulations. Natural refrigerant technology provides an effective solution to the PFAS-related issues and environmental challenges facing the industry. The company will continue to work closely with global automakers to drive the development of sustainable mobility solutions. The white paper is available for download on the Hanon Systems official website.

Founded in 1986, Hanon Systems is a global leader in thermal management solutions. In January 2025, the company became a subsidiary of the Hankook & Company Group. Its product portfolio covers heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; powertrain cooling; compressors; fluid transport; electronics and fluid pressure; and other areas. The company currently operates 50 manufacturing sites and three regional innovation centers, employing over 20,000 people across 21 countries worldwide.
