en.Wedoany.com Reported - AnteoTech, a Queensland-based Australian company, has launched a new crosslinking additive for lithium-ion batteries, Anteo C, designed for primer coatings on copper foil anodes and aluminum foil cathode current collectors.

AnteoTech stated that Anteo C is a water-based crosslinking agent free of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), used to stabilize primer coatings on battery anodes and cathodes. Primer coatings are thin layers applied between the current collector foil (copper or aluminum) and the active material layer, designed to increase adhesion between the active material and the current collector, reduce contact resistance, and prevent corrosion. A key challenge facing the industry is the transition to low-cost water-based binders, which, while offering cost and environmental advantages, are prone to dissolution when applying water-based slurries during electrode manufacturing, compromising the integrity of the primer coating and reducing battery performance.

AnteoTech claims that Anteo C stabilizes the primer coating by crosslinking the binder molecular structure, preventing its dissolution during anode or cathode manufacturing. The company says the product enables the use of a wider range of low-cost water-based binder systems while improving the mechanical and electrochemical properties of the primer coating, thereby enhancing lithium-ion battery electrode performance. Additionally, Anteo C offers an alternative to solvent-based primer formulations that rely on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as "forever chemicals."

The product launch is based on laboratory-scale testing of 100 ml samples and roll-to-roll pilot coating trials, after which the coated materials were sent to end customers for evaluation. Currently, 20-liter samples of Anteo C have been shipped to a Korean manufacturer for evaluation in water-based lithium iron phosphate cathode production.

AnteoTech Managing Director and CEO Merrill Gray stated that this is positive progress achieved in a relatively short time since entering the Korean market, and the company looks forward to sustained growth across all products in this market. She added that more customer opportunities have been identified globally, with commercial discussions underway, and the company is directly engaging with potential customers in other key markets.

Anteo C is the second new advanced battery technology (ABT) product launched by AnteoTech in 2026, following the introduction of Anteo S for separator technology. These two products enrich the company's high-silicon Ultranode and Anteo X product lines. Gray said that the product portfolio developed by the ABT team provides a platform for growth.
